Every particle has a lifetime. It spawns at an emitter, lives for a short time, then fades away. Watch how particles are born and die in this fountain.
A campfire effect might spawn 200 particles per second, but each only lives for 1-2 seconds, keeping the total count manageable!
Particles follow simple physics: velocity controls direction and speed, gravity pulls them down, and friction slows them over time.

Positive = falls down (rain, sparks). Negative = rises up (bubbles, smoke).
Values near 1.0 = floaty. Lower values = particles slow down quickly.
The secret ingredient that makes particles look natural instead of robotic? Randomness! Compare these two fountains - same settings, but one has random variations.
Speed (±30%), angle (±15°), size (±40%), lifetime (±20%), spawn position (±5px)
value * (0.7 + Math.random() * 0.6) gives ±30% variation around a base value
Particles can change appearance as they age. But the real magic happens with additive blending - overlapping particles get BRIGHTER instead of darker!
