The golden ratio is a special number, approximately 1.618, that appears throughout nature, art, and mathematics. The ancient Greeks called it the "divine proportion."
The golden ratio is unique: it's the only number where 1/φ = φ - 1. This self-similarity creates endless recursive patterns.
Like π, the golden ratio never ends or repeats. It's exactly (1 + √5) / 2, but we usually round to 1.618.
The symbol φ (phi) is named after Phidias, the Greek sculptor who used the golden ratio in the design of the Parthenon!
The Fibonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13...) has a magical property: dividing consecutive numbers approaches the golden ratio!
