What's a Tile?

A tile is a tiny image - usually 16x16 or 32x32 pixels - that repeats to fill large areas. One small square can build an entire world!

The Power of the Grid

The Tilesheet: A Tile Atlas

Tile #0 is top-left, #1 is next to it, and so on. The grid position IS the tile's ID.

Fun Fact
The term "sprite sheet" comes from the same idea - packing multiple animation frames into one image. Tilesheets are sprite sheets for environments!
