A finished habit tracker: two bar charts of a week of habits side by side.

Badge requirements: the 5 steps

  1. 1Learn about data collection and visualizationRead and quizData is facts you collect, like how many hours you slept each night. A visualization turns data into a picture, so you can see what the numbers say at a glance.
  2. 2Create an array of personal dataIn GlassboxPut a week of your own data into code: an array of 7 numbers, one for each day, and draw it as a bar chart.
  3. 3Make a data collection planPlan itPlan how you will collect real data on two habits for a week, so in step 4 you can see whether they change together.
  4. 4Correlate dataIn GlassboxChart your two habits side by side and look for a correlation: do they go up and down together?
  5. 5Create a habit tracking app prototypeIn GlassboxTurn your charts into an app: click it to log one more for today, and watch a bar fill up toward your goal.
Glassbox: blocks on the left, tracker.js as blocks in the middle with the reading list and the drawBars call, the bar chart on the right.
Each step shows how Glassbox works, then opens it with a checklist that ticks as the work gets done.

Work on a computer. The apps need a keyboard and a bigger screen than a phone: a laptop, desktop or Chromebook. You can pay here and open the emailed link on the computer.
