Badge requirements: the 5 steps

  1. 1Brainstorm a game for good scenarioRead and quizGames can do good: teach a skill, change how people see a problem, or show them what they can do. Start with a problem you care about.
  2. 2Create a characterPlan itA player cares about a game when they care about its main character. Create the character whose choices the player makes.
  3. 3Build a decision treeIn TwineNow build the game's branches in Twine. Every passage is one screen; every link is a choice the player can make.
  4. 4Design your gameIn TwineMake it a game people want to play: a name, a look that fits the subject, and an opening that pulls the player in.
  5. 5Playtest and iterateWith your troopDesigners find out what works by watching people play. Playtest your game, then improve it from what you saw.
Twine: tabs and buttons along the top, your game's passages as boxes on a map.
Each step shows how Twine works, then opens it with a checklist that ticks as the work gets done.

Work on a computer. The apps need a keyboard and a bigger screen than a phone: a laptop, desktop or Chromebook. You can pay here and open the emailed link on the computer.
