GameBuilder lesson plans
Each one is a class period with everything to run it: a teacher plan, a student worksheet, an exit ticket with answers, and the standards it meets. Students need no account, and a free class saves their work.
Game Builder: Change the Rules with Variables
Students play Meadow Run, a finished platform game, then change three numbers the game reads: Gravity, Jump Power and Move Speed. One small change traps the player in a valley, and that is the moment a variable makes sense: one number, used everywhere. By the end, each student has a game with rules of their own that still works, and a classmate who has to guess what they changed.
On Teachers Pay TeachersGame Builder: How High Can It Jump?
Students open a jump test level with ten stone pillars, 1 to 10 tiles tall, and measure the tallest pillar the player can stand on at five Jump Power values. Most of them predict that doubling the jump will double the height; the table says it nearly quadruples it. By the end, they can say why the table is not proportional, and predict the effect of gravity before they test it.
